UN@ Frankfurter Junges Forum

The Frankfurt Young Theater Forum is the central discourse meeting for the performing arts for young audiences and takes place annually.

We looked at our projects and events for 2023 and identified topics for the upcoming FForum that are relevant to working for and with young audiences. This year, the key words are storytelling , children and youth participation , and diversity and transformation – and associated with this are questions about the attitude with which we actually want to tell stories, make theater and art, and involve and address people?

And because it’s about the performing arts, we want to show + attitude .

What it was about:

“The Frankfurt Forum Junges Theater is the central discourse meeting for performing arts for young audiences and takes place every year. The conference is a meeting place for everyone who works in or is interested in performing arts for young audiences:

We want to work together, talk to each other and gather new ideas. It’s about content-related issues such as new theatre forms, texts and aesthetics – but also about structural issues such as working conditions, diversity and participation.

We try out different formats to get people talking to each other: Mostly there are lectures, workshops and discussions and actions in small groups, but sometimes also walks or speed dating.

We try to invite people from as many areas of work as possible and enable as many people as possible to take part in the conference.

Why UN attended:

The focus here is on the question of how the performing arts for young audiences can become more diverse and how we can promote critical thinking about discrimination and its intersections. To do this, we need to focus on multi-perspective, marginalised narratives of artists, cultural workers, activists and community organisers. What can a practice of equality and “eye level” look like in the cultural sector? What does “power sharing” mean in practice?

Speakers: Marque Pham (founding member, shareholder of United Networks (gUG) & United Networks’ network partner “MSG & Friends”) & Yvette Robertson (expert from the transformation programme of United Networks gUG)
