United Networks (UN) gUG is a non-profit organization and an alliance that was founded by six self-organized BIPoC-centered initiatives in 2021. It currently comprises eight alliance partners, of which five are founding members and three are new members.

The initiatives that make up the alliance are in constant dialogue and jointly design formats (UN Actions), while at the same time continuing to work on their own formats and projects. Together with the new partners, UN operates within six federal states: Berlin, Hamburg, Hessen, Saxony-Anhalt, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Bavaria.

The central mission of the alliance is to promote, empower and connect marginalized BIPoC artists and cultural workers and make their work, voices and perspectives visible. In addition, the UN wants to establish fairer working conditions in the arts and culture sector.

The organization is supported by the “Verbindungen Fördern” network, which was set up by the BFDK (Bund Freie Darstellende Künste). This network has set itself the goal of strengthening supra-regional alliances in the independent performing arts by providing financial resources and facilitating networking, training and the exchange of knowledge.

UN working principles and P.I.S.C.E.S. values at a glance

Political Impact: Influencing cultural policy decision-making processes and discourse

Innovation: Developing new knowledge, tools and structures and making them available to others
