UN ACTIONS

The UN team organizes nationwide network meetings, workshops, artistic residencies and presentations and develops tools, knowledge and skills, which in turn are passed on and published.

This is done in collaboration with individual artists, cultural workers, activists and community organizers. The formats designed by UN can be divided into so-called UN Actions: UN Meet, UN Lab, UNacademy, UN Roundtable, UN@__, and UN Study.

They are designed to connect, facilitate, and encourage connections between diverse groups of people working in the fields of art, activism, politics and culture. They take place either in Safer Spaces (BIPoC only) or in Braver Spaces (BIPoC with anti-racist allies).

UN Meet

From young and old – fresh and experienced – BIPoC artists and cultural creators are invited to networking meetings organized by a local, trusted person who is active and working directly in their community! We call this person a “community outreacher”.

There’s food, drinks, moderation, workshops, and activities all based on the specific needs of BIPoC communities. This is a space for needs to be voiced and connections to flourish.

UN Lab

Labs are 7-14 day artistic research residencies in places with less resources, funding, and qualified creatives. This means our lab can be found anywhere in between the beautiful pastoral landscape of the countryside or underlooked districts in cities.

With the UN Lab, we want to create an opportunity for artists to work in equitable and facilitated conditions with marginalized perspectives.

UNacademy

These are discussions with BIPoC artists and cultural creators, as well as experts in politics and administration. We curate and build spaces, to exchange on structural challenges and cultural policy concerns from marginalized perspectives.

The aim is to enter into a process of learning and unlearning together, explore possible solutions and build bridges – between cultural policy, administration, activism, art and culture.

flower-06

UN Roundtable

Regular online meetings where UN partners, other BIPoC networks, and individual artists and cultural creators from across Germany come together to chat, exchange ideas, and collaborate.

BIPoC networks come in diverse sizes, cultures, and forms. Here we share knowledge and tools to strengthen each other’s intersectional BIPoC movements.

If you have an event, symposium, or conference in need of our expertise in how to improve diversity and equity, send us an invitation!

We notice an information gap when it comes to diversity and equity in the arts and culture sector, and we want to solve that. The more platforms we are provided, the wider our BIPoC communities reach are.

UN Study

A nationwide analysis of barriers and challenges faced by BIPoC artists and cultural workers in the performing arts. In the study, we aim to indicate why it’s difficult for BIPoC artists, of different disadvantages, to break into arts and culture. We utilize our network partners’ work as case studies.

We want policy makers to have a hard look at what BIPoC artists need from funding systems and take into consideration what changes should take place, so that the arts and culture becomes more accessible for BIPoC artists
